Boston’s offense was relentless from the opening frame, tallying seven goals in the first period alone to effectively decide the outcome before the game was even ten minutes old.
Tyler Hicks was the story of the night for Boston, netting a hat trick that included the game-winning goal at 13:14 of the first period. Hicks opened the scoring drought early with a goal at 5:56, then struck again to put Boston ahead for good, and capped his big night with an unassisted tally in the second period at 12:11. Timmy Mac was nearly as dangerous, factoring in on three of Boston’s first-period goals with two goals of his own and an assist on Hicks’ game-winner. Brian Winters chipped in a pair of goals in the first period as well, as Boston’s attack showed no mercy, building a commanding lead before the first intermission.
Long Island Warriors – Blue managed to avoid the shutout thanks to Jeff Shaw, who beat the Boston defense with an unassisted goal at 11:05 of the third period. It was a small consolation on an otherwise lopsided night, as Boston continued to add to its total even after building a double-digit-goal cushion, with Jake Lavery and Austin Savage each finding the back of the net to round out the scoring.
With contributions coming from up and down the lineup — Kyle Irving factored in on two goals with a helper on Mason Ralph’s tally and an assist on Timmy Mac’s opener — Boston displayed the kind of offensive depth that makes them a tough matchup in this summer showcase.
